Reward for continuously striving to achieve your goal

My name is Patrick Beaupre, I grew up on a family farm of about twenty cows that my father took over from my grandfather. My father was not making any money from the farm, so unfortunately he had to sell it. I would have loved to live where I grew up, but my parents divorced a few years later and I couldn’t afford a farm because of the price of it at the time. I was still able to buy a tractor for my family and some machinery that I had stored away with neighbors.

I knew that one day I would get a farm big enough to support myself. I worked with other farmers to continue learning and gaining experience. The passion was still there, but working for others didn’t bring me satisfaction. I searched for a long time to find a form to my liking, but without success.

My girlfriend, who had never taken a vacation, decided we were going to visit New Brunswick for a week. That’s when I realized I didn’t need a big farm to be happy. So, in 2018, I bought a house in Lac-Etchemin in the same row where I grew up. He had a barn that formerly housed animals, but it had fallen into disrepair. I remodeled the barn from concrete floors to exterior sheet metal during my weekend. During the week, I went out to work. I tried my best to make my dream come true.

Three years later, I purchased my first herd of ten beef cows. I had to leave my outside job to take care of the herd, but also because we had our first son. So, I started working for myself in forestry.

My first year was not easy, but I always managed and the passion was always there. Now I have 20 cows. My stable is full.

Recently, my neighbor offered me his stables so I can continue development, which will allow me to have 40 more cows. I am currently in these stages.

During those years, people around me told me that these days it is not possible to start from scratch without someone coming before us. I am now 28 years old and I am proud of all the efforts I have made to get there.
